Around 150 events will be taking place throughout June, July & August in eighteen parish churches in the Aylsham area of Norfolk, most of which are free or donation only. Our three-month summer Festival, is now in its third year and builds on the success of last two year’s 12 Towers Festival which saw around 5000 people attend events organised during the Festival.  The Festival is a celebration of our Rural Churches and Communities and demonstrates the rural church is very much alive and kicking!

Our rural Churches are at the heart of our communities and through the year provide space to explore worship, heritage and culture. Our 12 Towers Festival brings together these activities alongside fun for all the family to create a three month community celebration across 18 parishes. The aims of the Festival are to give people opportunities to discover more about themselves and their communities, to affirm the rich and diverse heritage and culture of rural Norfolk and to celebrate the relationships and partnerships which support rural communities. It will showcase a varied array of events - ranging from heritage, culture and the arts; to spirituality, community and family fun.   The eighteen churches involved are Aylsham, Badersfield, Blicking, Brampton, Burgh, Buxton, Cawston, Haveringland, Heydon, Lammas, Marsham, Oulton, Little Barningham, Itteringham, Wickmere Oxnead, Aldbourgh & Scottow; and between them they’ve come up with a huge array of activities from concerts to a children’s activity days; from a tours to a mini Beer Festival with Wildcraft Brewery; from bell ringing and a pop-up pub to open gardens.

Organised by the churches that form the Aylsham & District Team Ministry, supported by Broadland District Council, Ivan Fisher Funeral Homes & History Mystery the festival promises to offer something for everyone.   Sponsorship from Broadland District council and a Sharing the Good News Grant from the Diocese of Norwich has held fund the production of a full colour Festival Guide to promote the event.

Revd Canon Andrew Beane, who leads the Aylsham District Team Ministry, said ‘Across the Team we are really excited about The Twelve Towers Festival and how it will bring our churches and communities together celebrating heritage, music, culture.  The festival will also bring together different generations and will offer events and activities for our schools and local families.   After last year’s success we were determined to grow the Festival, so we have more events and activities along with more churches that have joined the Team. The 12 Towers Festival is a celebration of our Rural Churches and Communities and show just a glimpse of all the amazing things that happen in our rural communities, day by day, week by week, month by month.  Thank you to all the amazing people that make these events possible!"

The Rt Revd Jonathan Meyrick, Bishop of Lynn, said "I am thrilled this Festival is happening again.  At its heart is rejoicing together in all that this part of rural Norfolk has to offer through it beauty, its churches and it talented creative people.  I hope you enjoy and are inspired by all it has to offer."
