Following new guidelines issued, the sound of a church bell will return to our town for the first time since lock down began to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday 8th May.

The sound of bells is deeply rooted in British culture, providing the soundtrack to our historic moments – calling us to pray, to work, to arms, to celebrate and, in times of crisis, to come together.

On Friday, Church bells will be rung throughout our nation again in celebration of the peace and friendships we share today.

Here are some other ways to celebrate in your own home on the day:

11am - 2 minutes silence to remember the fallen.

From 12noon - Share a 1940s style afternoon tea in your own home.

3pm - Raise a glass and Toast the Heroes of WWII, using the following words. “TO THOSE WHO GAVE SO MUCH, WE THANK YOU”.

7pm - Listen to the church bell ringing for peace.

9pm - The Queen’s address to the nation.
